They Can Come From The Air

An intervantion in PHV, Heidelberg
2021

"They Can Come From The Air" is the name of the hybrid calligraphy mural series in PHV Heidelberg, an abandoned American residential area for military personnel.

The project comprises a diptych of two murals, with one being permanent and the other temporary. Its focus lies in exploring the intricate interplay between these two states by juxtaposing the German words "Erfahrung" and "Erlebnis," both of which translate to "Experience" in English. "Erlebnis" derives from the verb "leben" - to live, while "Erfahrung" stems from the verb "fahren" - to travel. Through these murals, an examination of these linguistic concepts occurs within the context of migration, probing the perceptual distance between experiences that are temporary and those that are permanent.
