Toys and games are vessels of storytelling, preserving narratives of heroism, folklore, and tragedy. Series of murals was commissioned by R. Shimizu, collector and curator of MUJAM, the world's largest toy collection, founded in 1955, showcasing Mexican culture and history through the perspective of artisan and commercial games and toys. The murals are abstract, fusing typographic elements of indigenous, European, and African influences, weaving them into tapestries embracing the traditional Mexican colour palette, portraying the overall experience of the vast collection. From ancient civilizations to modern times, the artefacts carry echoes of cultural heritage, resilience, and societal transformations. They resonate with expressions of diverse communities, embodying the fusion of foreign influences, as they mirror the complexities of modern society, often incorporating themes of migration, urbanisation, and globalisation and provide insights into Mexico's present challenges of social justice, equality, and identity.
